Identify the performance appraisal
objective
Setting goals or objectives is a key initial step in
the process. The appraisal is set as SMART Specific,
Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Timebound.
The appraisers must decide which outputs,
achievements, and skills will be appraised.
Example: Those employees who make many
mistakes must be identified first. The appraiser
must specifically know who will be appraised to
prevent common mistakes from reoccurring in
the future. If not, it will be time-consuming, and
the result will not be accurate.
Establish clear measurement
Set the objectives so that both the appraiser and
the appraisee understand what is being
measured. Goals or objectives are closely related
to an employee's job description and the
previously defined tasks. Define the criteria use to
evaluate the performance. Consider how
appraiser might build a supportive environment
to help employees succeed in established goals
and measured.
