5 Types of bias in a performance
appraisal
A good manager should be honest when it comes
to their employees' performance. Bias can have a
huge negative impact on employee performance
reviews. Bias can affect a manager's and
organization's perception of how well an employee
is performing. Managers must avoid any bias in
employee performance evaluation to maintain an
efficient workplace.
Recency Effect
When this bias influences managers, they tend to
overvalue short-term events to the detriment of
the employee’s long-term performance.
Example: Appraiser ignores earlier appraise work
and pays attention during appraisal time only. The
recency effect can lead to ineffective and false
performance reviews.
