Example 10
Calculate the value of current that flows through 8 Ω by using Norton’s theorem.

Step 1
Remove the 8Ω resistor from the circuit and replace the voltage source with a short
circuit. Hence, calculate the value of ZN.

ZN = ([–j4 + (10//j20)] // [j10]) + (-j2)
= ([–j4 + (8+j4)] // [j10]) + (-j2)
= ([8] // [j10]) + (-j2)
= (4.878 + j3.902) + (-j2)
= (4.878 + j1.902) Ω
