NATURE OF HOSPITALITY
The word 'hospitality',used to welcome visitors or
provide comforting environment away from home,
is originally from the Latin word 'hospes', which
has the same meaning as visitor or stranger.
Welcoming guests to any type of facility does not
just refer to shelter only nbut also to offering
food. The interaction between a guest and a host
is referred to as hospitality.
Hospitality is one of the oldest
busines. When leisure tourism and
hospitality gained popularity in
Europe in the late 1800s,
Switzerland saw an infusion of
wealthy tourists. Visitors looking
for cultural and natural exposure
started to go for wellness tourism,
train trips, and guided tours of
the Swiss Mountains. Thermal
baths, ski resorts, and hotels
designed like palaces were
symbols of luxury travel in
Switzerland.
This new generation of wealthy guests had
higher expectations for comfortable
accommodations, convenient services, and fine
dining. The rise of leisure travel led directly to
the establishment of hospitality management
schools.
