CHAPTER 2: FLUID APPLICATION
CHAPTER 2
FLUID APPLICATION
Application of fluid mechanics. Fluid mech
anics is the science that deals with the
nature of the fluid in a state of silence (fluid
statics) or fluid in a moving state (fluid
dynamics), and the interaction of
the fluid with solids or other fluids at the
surface of its boundary.
2.1 Relationship Between Pressure and Depth
Pressure and depth have a directly proportional relationship. This is due to the greater column of water that
pushes down on an object submersed. Pressure, P is the force applied perpendicular to the surface of an
object per unit area over which that force is distributed.

Liquid will exert pressure on all sides and the
bottom of the container.
The weight of liquid contained in the cylinder is
ωhA, where:
ω = Specific weight of the liquid
(ω water = ρ x g = 1000 kg/m3 x 9.81 m/s2)
h = Height of liquid in the cylinder
A = Area of the cylinder base
