LIPOPROTEIN
A combination of fat (lipo-) and protein; protein coated
package that carry fat and cholesterol through the blood
stream. There are four (4) components of lipoprotein,
which are:
i. Triglycerides
ii. Protein
iii. Cholesterol
iv. Phospholipids
.
The body makes four types of lipoprotein, classified
according to their density:
i. Chylomicron – responsible for carrying triglycerides
and cholesterol from intestine through the lymph system
to the bloodstream
ii. Very low density lipoprotein – lipoprotein are made by
the liver to carry triglycerides and some cholesterol
through the body
iii. Low density lipoprotein (LDL) – lipoprotein that
contain most of cholesterol in the blood and its carry
cholesterol to body tissue
iv. High density lipoprotein (HDL) – lipoprotein that
contain much protein and carry cholesterol away from
body cells and tissue to the liver for excretion from the
body.
