                     CHOLESTEROL

The body use cholesterol to make bile acids, cell
membranes many hormones and vitamin D.

Cholesterol is found only in foods of animal origin,
such as egg yolk, meat poultry, fish, milk and milk
product. It is not found in foods of plant origin.

The body cells and the liver produce cholesterol and
so it is not an essential nutrients

As cholesterol in the body increases, the level of heart
             and artery disease increase

Cholesterol is transported in the blood in two forms
             i. Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL) is the “bad” form that
tends to deposit cholesterol on the walls of the blood
             vessels
ii. High Density Lipoprotein (HDL) is the “good” form
that removes cholesterol from the cells and brings it
             back to
the liver and intestines to be recycled or excreted
