                                                                      1.2 HEAT CAPACITY AND LATENT HEAT





                       The heat capacity of an object is the amount of heat required to increase the temperature of the
                       object by 1 °C. Each object has its own heat capacity. The heat capacity of an object depends on

                       the mass, type and temperature of the substance:


                           i)  Mass of substance
                              Figure 6.5 below shows hot water being poured from a jug into a glass. The water in a jug

                              is hotter to the touch compared to the water in the glass. This is because the water in the
                              jug has a greater quantity of heat compared to the water in the glass.
