Thevenin Theorem
Step 2
Calculate the value of Thevenin voltage, Vth by removing the 6Ω resistor from the
circuit. Here, there are three different ways to find the Thevenin voltage, Vth.

Method #1
By using Current Divider Rule (CDR),
i = 3 x (2A) = (1.8 + j0.6) A
(3+ 4− 5)
Vth = V-j5Ω
= i x (–j5Ω)
= (1.8 + j0.6) x (–j5 Ω) = (3 – j9) Volts
Method #2
Simplify the circuit diagram.
