Thevenin Theorem
Example 1
Solve the current flowing through the 4Ω resistor using Thevenin’s theorem.

1) First, remove the 4Ω resistor and calculate the value of the Thevenin
resistance, Rth by replacing voltage source with a short circuit.
Figure 2.1(b)
Thevenin resistance, Rth is the resistance measured across points A and B looking back
into the circuit.
Rth = 3 + [1 Ω parallel to 2 Ω]
= 3 + [1//2]
= 3 + 0.67
= 3.667 Ω
