Mesh Analysis
Example 1
Determine the current flowing through resistor R1, R2 and R3 using Mesh
Analysis.

To determine the mesh current i1 and i2;
1. Identify every mesh and label each mesh current as i1 and i2.
2. Apply Kirchhoff’s Voltage Law (KVL) in each mesh. Use Ohm’s Law to express
the voltage across any element within that mesh.
3. Solve the equation in each mesh to obtain the values of the unknown mesh current.
Solution
Step 1:
The current through a mesh is called mesh current. Figure 1.1(a) shows two mesh
currents: i1 and i2.
