Thevenin Theorem
Zth = [(8 + 6) is parallel to (j10)] + (– j14)
= [(14) // (j10)] + (– j14)
= [ (14)( j10) ] – j14
(14 + j10)
= (4.73 – j7.378) Ω

Step 2
Calculate the value of Thevenin voltage, Vth by removing the 12Ω load from the circuit.
There are two methods to find the value of Thevenin voltage, Vth.
Figure 2.6(d)
Method #1
Vth = Vj10Ω = i x (j10)
By using Current Divider Rule (CDR),
i = (6) x 4A = (1.135 – j0.811) A
(6+ 8 + j10)
Vth = Vj10Ω = i x (j10) = (1.135 – j0.811) x (j10) = (8.11 + j11.35) V
