STRAIN GAUGE

                          (OPERATIONAL)

When stress is applied on the surface, the
stretched resistance wire increases in length.

When the stress is removed, the wire returns to

              original length.

The length of the wire varies in accordance with
              the stress applied on it.

This resistance change, usually measured using a

Wheatstone Bridge, is related to the strain by the
quantity known as the gauge factor.

In conclusion, the force applied to a conductor

will cause changes in the shape and resistance
              of the conductor.

Resistance wire strain gauges are used in two forms
              which are bonded and unbonded.
