STRAIN GAUGE
A device used to measure the strain of an object.
The strain gauge basically consists of a fine wire
attached on a mounting plate.
The resistance and the resistivity of a wire are directly
proportional to its length but inversely proportional to
its cross-sectional area.
The gauges commonly made from silicon, polysilicon,
metal film, thick film and bonded foil.
Most strain gauges are foil types, available in a wide
variety of shapes and sizes to suit various
applications.
