SYNOPSIS
One of Malaysia's major economic contributors comes from
tourism industry. The number of tourists fell in 2018, recovered
promptly in 2019, and then fell again from 2020 to 2022 as a result of
Pandemic COVID19. Most countries are scrambling to get
themselves back in shape to promote arrivals as tourism is a
significant source of income and employment in ASEAN with more
than 140 million travellers, about 10% of all visitors visiting the region
in 2019 before COVID 19 hit. Almost all ASEAN nations have
reopened their borders since 1st July 2022 in the hopes that the
industry will help to strengthen their struggling economies.
This e-book has been created as a result of the fact that
Malaysia has seen a fall in the number of foreign visitors compared
to its ASEAN neighbours since 2018. Six (6) proposed measures have
been developed in this e-book to propose and discuss steps that
could be made to transform the Malaysia's tourism industry
landscape for it to remain competitive. These six (6) actions have
been suggested and considered as an expected outcomes by
bench marking to other other countries. So, this e-book might be
useful as a guidance in order to stimulate the tourism sector by
using data in 2018 as a case study regarding factors of tourist
decline.
