OVERVIEW
CHAPTER 2
BASIC OF HYDRAULIC SYSTEM
Learning Outcomes: Apply the basic concept and function of hydraulic system.
This topic gives exposure and understanding on the standard symbol for hydraulic
components, introduction to basic components of hydraulic and pump, valve and actuator.
In 1795, Joseph Bramah, an engineer, invented the first hydraulic press. This
demonstrated that a low force, acting over a long stroke, on a small diameter piston could
develop a pressure in a fluid on contact with the piston. A hydraulic system uses a fluid
under pressure to drive machinery or move mechanical components. The power of liquid
fuel in hydraulics is significant and as a result, hydraulic are commonly used in heavy
equipment. That pressurized fluid acts upon every part of the section of a containing
vessel and creates force or power so it can lift heavy loads.
