Hans Camenzind created the 555 Timer in 1971, and it may be used in a

wide variety of electronic equipment, including toys, kitchen appliances,
and even spacecraft. It is an extremely stable integrated circuit that can

generate precise oscillations and time delays. The 555 Timer can operate

in a variety of ways, including Schmitt trigger, bistable, monostable, and

astable.
