     Radiocommunication Sector (ITU-R)

ITU-R role in global management of the radio-frequency spectrum and

satellite orbit resources and develops international standards for
          radiocommunication systems.

The role of ITU-R is becoming more important than ever for global

allocation and management of the radio-frequency spectrum.
ITU-R has important role to synchronize globally the allocation and usage

of frequency bands for the mobile broadband.
Broadband communication refers to high-speed transmission of data,

voice, and video over a wide range of frequencies.

ITU-R approves allocation of certain frequency resources for broadband
access, especially for mobile broadband technologies and at the same time

provides global synchronization for usage of different frequency bands for
          different technologies.

     Applications

ITU-R developed the IMT-2000 (International Mobile

Telecommunications-2000) umbrella of mobile standards commonly

known as 3G (third generation) ITU-R also set the requirements for 4G

          mobile systems, which called IMT-Advanced.
ITU-R provides ground for affordable and synchronized global

broadband access to Internet worldwide by using fixed-wireless,

          satellite, and mobile broadband technologies.
