Emulsion
" How does a screen make a print? In modern screen printing, a
stencil is made to hold back excess ink with a light-reacting
product called emulsion. The mesh is covered with emulsion
and dried. Then a clear film with dark art is placed on the screen
and a light is cast on it (exposure). The areas under the dark art
stay soft, and the other areas "harden." The soft parts are
"
washed out, leaving open holes in the mesh, enabling the ink to
squeeze through the mesh and print
