NEW ZEALAND
New Zealand is an island country in the South Pacific Ocean, in Polynesia's southwesternmost region. New Zealand
is a rural land that sits more than 1,000 miles (1,600 kilometres) southeast of Australia, its nearest neighbour. It is
one of the last large tracts of territory suitable for settlement to be colonised and settled. The country is made up of
two large islands, the North and South Islands, includes a number of smaller islands, some hundreds of miles apart
from the main group. Wellington, the capital city, and Auckland, the largest urban region, are both on the North
Island.
New Zealand is a diverse and contrasted country. New Zealand's visual splendour is enhanced by active volcanoes,
amazing caverns, deep glacier lakes, green valleys, spectacular fjords, long sandy beaches, and the spectacular
snowcapped summits of the Southern Alps on the South Island. New Zealand also contains a diverse range of plant
and animal life, much of which evolved as a result of the country's long isolation. It is, for example, the only home of
the long-beaked, flightless kiwi, New Zealand's worldwide nickname.
