TYPES OF
TERRAIN
Mountains and Plains of the North
The north of Thailand is home to several high
mountains and is the source of numerous rivers
that eventually become the Mekong, Chao Phraya,
and Salawin Rivers. Luang Phra Bang, Daen Lao,
Thanon Thong Chai, Phee Pun Nam, Khao Khun
Tan, and Phetchaburi are all notable mountains in
the area. Doi inthanon in ChiangMai is the highest,
standing at an astonishing 2,565 metres above sea
level.
Central Plains
The densest and largest sediment plains in
Thailand are found in this region. The Chao Phraya,
Mae Klong, Tha Jean, Pa Sak, and Bang Pa Kong
Rivers are the most important rivers in this area.
With these river systems and the flatlands of central
Thailand, it's no surprise that this region is a
valuable agricultural resource for the country.
Northeastern Plateaus
The Korat Basin is located in the centre of the
region, surrounded on both sides by steep
mountain ranges. The Chi and Moon Rivers run
through the area before merging into the Mekong in
Ubon Ratchathani. The Phetchaburi, Dong Phaya
Yen, San Kampaeng, and Pha Nom Dong Rak
mountains are all near.

High Mountains of the West
Between the west's dominant mountains, sparse
narrow lowlands intertwine. The Kwai Noi and
Kwai Yai Rivers, which eventually combine into
the Mae Klong River, originate in the Thanon
Thong Chai and Ta Naw Sri Mountains.
Mountains and Coastal Plains of the East
High mountains and coastal plains can be found
in the north, river plains in the east, a jagged
sierra in the middle, rolling plains in the middle,
and coastal plains in the south. A thin plain runs
between the Ban Tad and Chanthaburi
Mountains, ideal for cultivating fruit. The Bang
Pa Kong River flows through the area and into
Thailand's Gulf. The shoreline is covered with
beautiful Beaches and offshore sits the Islands
of Koh Chang, Koh Kood, and Koh Shi Chang.
The South's Mountains, Plateaus, Coastal
Plains, and Islands
Southern Thailand is separated from the rest of
the country by a short peninsula. Tall mountain
ranges pass through the peninsula's centre,
dividing two beach plains to the east and west.
San Ka Ra Kiri (which borders Malaysia),
Phuket, and Nakhon Si Thammarat are all
notable mountains in the vicinity. The Kra Buri,
Trang, Kirirat, Ta Pee, Pak Panang, and Klok
are only a few of the smaller rivers. The island of
Phuket is to the east, while Koh Samui and Koh
Pha Ngan are to the west.
