P. 4
Preface
This e-book provides a thorough grounding in holding a group discussion for all
learners of English and especially for DUE10012 Communicative English 1
students. While readers may come to it with a basic understanding of a group
discussion, the content assumes little or no prior study of oral communication
skills. Therefore it should be appropriate for learners at all levels of
English language proficiency. When learners discuss issues as a team, it is
crucial that as they express their views, they interact with one another
confidently using effective English phrases and allow the exchange of ideas. A
discussion takes more than just expressing one's thoughts as it involves
members of the team to accommodate differing opinions to reach an amicable
conclusion. The text begins with the introduction to talk and interaction (Part
1); a general understanding of oral communication skills in a group discussion.
The text goes on to the structure of a discussion (Part 2, Part 3, and Part 4).
Readers will also find Part 5, Part 6, and Part 7) highly beneficial to
incorporating precise language integral to holding a discussion. May your
understanding of the content in this e-book be the deciding factor in holding
an effective group discussion.
