Describe the characteristic(s) of these

materials: shape memory alloys,

piezoelectric ceramics, magnetostrictive

materials, and electrorheological/

magnetorheological fluids.

Piezoelectric ceramics expand and

contract in response to an applied electric

field (or voltage); conversely, they

generate an electric field when their

dimensions are altered. The piezoelectric

materials are high sensitivity, resonance

frequency, stability, etc.
