Describe the characteristic(s) of these

materials: shape memory alloys,

piezoelectric ceramics, magnetostrictive

materials, and electrorheological/

magnetorheological fluids.

Shape memory alloys are metals that, after

deforming, revert to their original shapes

when the temperature changes. They are

high strength, good elasticity, fatigue and

wear resistance, easy fabrication, easy

sterilisation, high power/weight ratio and

lightweight.
