5.5 Rules for cross hatching
1. Use a series of parallel lines (type B) drawn at 45 degrees and evenly spaced about 3mm
apart.
2. Do not draw hatching lines parallel to one or more sides of the object. Use another angle.
3. Dimensions can be placed in the hatched sectioned area.
4. Hatch around the edge only of large sectioned areas.
5. Very thin areas are difficult to section, eg gaskets, plastic sheets and structural shapes.
Fill these in as a darkened area.
6. Adjacent parts that are assembled together have the hatching lines running in
opposite directions. If there are more than two parts, a different angle or spacing must be
used for the hatching of each part.
7. Do not hatch webs when the cutting plane passes lengthwise through them as it suggests
they are thicker than they are.
