TOPIC 1
1.0 Introduction to Technical Drawing
Technical drawing is also known as engineering drawing is a way to produce a plan drawing
that accurately depicts a technical, architectural and engineering objects. In other words,
engineering is a communication tool or language of communication among those involved in
with the world of engineering.
Technical drawing is the drawing of lines formed from a pencil using technical drawing
equipment, not independently without the use of equipment. This drawing is a true
depiction of an object shape in more detail accompanied by sizes and measurements from
all directions of view.
1.1 Engineering drawings instruments and their uses
The instruments used in engineering drawing are:
1. Drawing sheet 6. Protractor
2. Drawing board 7. French curves
3. T square 8. Pencils
4. Compass 9. Eraser
5. Set Squares 10. Masking tape
1. Drawing sheet
Drawing paper is used to make a drawing that is drawn using a pencil. Usually the ANSI
(American National Standard Institute) standard measurements for drawing paper are as
follows:
Drawing Dimension (Length X
Sheet Type Width) (mm)
A0 841 X 1189
A1 594 X 841
A2 420 X 594
A3 297 X 420
A4 210 X 297
A5 148 X 210
