Composite Materials
Applications:
o One of the most common composites is
fibreglass, in which small glass fibres are
embedded within a polymeric material
(normally epoxy or polyester). The glass
fibres are relatively strong and stiff (but
also brittle), whereas the polymer is
ductile (but also weak and flexible).
Thus, the resulting fibreglass is relatively
stiff, strong, flexible, and ductile. In
addition, it has a low density.
