SELF-ASSESSMENT

                            EXERCISE

           4. Question??

With a suitable diagram of Asymmetric Digital

           Subscriber Line (ADSL) network architecture,

apply the DIgital Subscriber Line (DSL)
technologies in order to provide higher

data rates over traditional telephone line

           (twisted pair).

  Answer!!

The main fixed broadband access technologies over copper lines are DSL
technologies as well as cable access network..

The figure below shows the ADSL network architecture.
ADSL is a technology which provides higher data rates.
It belongs to the family of DSL technologies, where the signal is transmitted

        over the line as digital.
ADSL provides asymmetric bit rates in downlink and uplink direction

        (Asymmetric DSLL).
From figure, DSLAM (Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer), which is

located in telephone exchanges or distribution points is used as a network
distribution device that aggregates individual subscriber link into a high-

        capacity link.
They allow for the high-speed transmission of DSL technology using legacy
        copper lines.
